I wake up in a dark bedroom, gazing into a stranger’s amber eyes. He runs a hand down my cheek and whispers something that makes my heart “Welcome home darling. I’m your husband.”

My whole life until this moment is gone. I have amnesia after a terrible accident, and now I just have to trust what my husband, Evan, says. But everything feels wrong, from the name he gives me, ‘Cora,’ to the home he says I loved.

As I explore our sprawling old farmhouse, I find another woman’s belongings, and Evan says they belong to the woman who lived here before us. I begin to get to know her, piecing together her life although I can’t remember mine. Why would she leave precious items behind, like her photos and her locket?

Then I hear something in the basement that sends a shiver down my spine. Evan’s elderly aunt, who lives with us, hears it too. She hisses to me, her eyes darting fearfully, ‘Get out. You’renot his wife.’

But I’m not going anywhere. Because the answers to who I am, and what happened to the woman who lived here first, are in this house.

I think Evan is lying and my life is in danger. I’m going to get the key to that basement to find out the truth.

But when my memories come flooding back, I’ll realize Evan isn’t the only one with secrets he’ll kill to protect…

A woman wakes up in a bedroom, with no recollection of who she actually is and why she ended up in the bedroom. A man sitting beside her, tells her that her name is Cora and that he is her husband Evan. Evan tells her that she had an accident and is suffering from amnesia which explained why she doesn’t remember anything. As Cora is getting used to the surroundings, she couldn’t help feel that something is wrong in the house. A woman claiming to be Evan’s great-aunt tells Cora that she is not actually Evan’s wife. And something is going down in the basement.

This was an interesting and fast paced thriller that you couldn’t put the book down. You have Cora and then you have another character named Gabrielle who is struggling financially. We have another woman who seemingly disappeared mysteriously. And then we have a family, who claimed that the farmhouse belong to someone else. This was intriguing as well and the whole book was filled with twists and turns.

The ending was the biggest twist and the most unexpected one as a matter of fact. I didn’t really expect that type of ending at all.

Overall this book is worth 4.5 stars.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
